The only night race on the calendar paradoxically has among the coldest track temperatures, in spite of the desert location. Dew can cause problems, and in the rare event of rain (as in 2009) racing under the 1,000 floodlights is impossible.
Dunlop’s view:
This has the smoothest asphalt of all, but being in the desert it can get covered in fine sand. This makes it very abrasive, so compounds have to be durable, as well as working at lower temperatures. The only night race is definitely a challenge for the tyre designers.
