Dunlop looks forward to Loket

After seeing a three-round run of consecutive podiums narrowly end at Lommel, Dunlop riders will be looking for two trouble-free motos in this Sunday’s Czech Republic MX1 Motocross Grand Prix.

Incidents hampered each of the Dunlop competitors in the deep Lommel sand, but 2011 grand prix winner Evgeny Bobryshev still finished just three points from the rostrum in fourth.

The Russian’s Honda World Motocross team-mate Rui Goncalves was also in overall podium contention until a late mechanical problem in moto two, while LS Honda riders Ken de Dycker and Shaun Simpson had joined Bobryshev in an impressive charge from the back of the pack in moto one.

All were surely inspired by the incredible support shown by the Belgian fans earlier in the day, when an autograph session with the four Honda riders saw 500 posters and 200 yellow Dunlop caps snapped-up within 15 minutes! There was also the debut of the Dunlop Glove which was signed by all riders present.

Bobryshev starts this weekend’s Loket round still holding fourth in the championship, 34 points from Steven Frossard and 45 from second-placed Clement Desalle.

With 200 points still to be decided, both are within easy reach of Bobryshev, who will be relying on his Dunlops to extract grip from the tricky Loket terrain.

“Loket is very slippery because of all the small stones,” explained Bobryshev. “So you cannot push too hard and instead you must ride smooth and smart. It’s quite technical and a good start is vital.”

Rivals beware: Bobryshev is to be reunited with his race-winning rear Dunlop from Germany this weekend – the same prototype design he took to two holeshots and a perfect double moto victory.

“As Bobby says, starts are crucial in Loket and I am very confident for this,” said Dunlop’s Motocross Race Coordinator Eddy Seel. “The GP winning tyre from Germany is going to be back on track and we all know what it is capable of…”

Despite his last-lap heartache in Lommel, Goncalves still gained a position in the championship and is ranked sixth heading into this weekend. Like Bobryshev, Goncalves and the other official Dunlop riders will also have use of the all-conquering Teutschenthal tyre.

“The public are really close to the Loket track and support you a lot,” said the Portuguese star. “It is a track with a lot of history and a natural layout. A good start is important because it’s very fast and difficult to pass.”

Qualifying for the Czech Republic Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, with the MX1 and MX2 grand prix races on Sunday – and don’t forget to look out for the Dunlop Glove!
